Coming to us from Edible Entertainment, Veks and Silence (it took me a while to get the pun) is a 2.5d walk along shooter that takes influence from a number of genres.

You play as Silence who must try and find his partner Veks. You do this by navigating through thirteen levels and shooting everything in sight, from Zombies to giant slugs with your 4 different weapons. One of the biggest strenghts of Veks and Silence is the balancing of these weapons.

01

The pistol is quite weak but gives you the most freedom of movement. The shotgun is powerful at close range and has a good bullet spread but is weak from a distance. The minigun is powerful but will make you move slower and the sniper rifle is deadly accurate but has a slow rate of fire.

The shooting sections on the whole are very satisfying. You use X to fire your gun forward and B to fire it backwards which allows the game to throw some intense enemy patterns at you.

02

Also hampering you are various turrets placed throughout most levels that make the game play more like a platformer. The turret sections can prove more tricky that the shooting sections and this gives the game a slightly uneven difficulty curve. A couple of times I found myself struggling with a level but then walked straight though the next one.

Special mention must go to the graphics in Veks and Silence. There are a lot of 3D backgrounds and models and the vast majority are very well designed. Even though they are not technically impressive with low poly counts and some rough edges, the art and humor shines through to make this one of the best attempts at 3D on Indie Games.

The sound too is well done. The music fits the over-the-top atmosphere and the sound effects and voice acting are suitably crude (the laugh when you die does start to get annoying after a while though).

03

Once you have finished the lengthy story mode. You can also play the survival mode that puts you in a certain section of each story mode level and throws various enemies and turrets at you to see how long you can survive. It’s great fun and a nice extra from the developer in an already large game.

Overall Veks and Silence is an instantly likeable game. The gameplay is extremely satisfying, fsĀ  a little uneven and will keep you coming back for more. There is a good amount of content and it is well presented. Veks and Silence is a game should should seriously consider picking up.

Veks and Silence manges to be both fun and funny.

Two new games released over the last 24 hours.

Note: These impressions are based off 8 minutes of gameplay and are not an accurate assessment of the full product.

Despite being incredibly simple and having poor graphics, I quite enjoyed the trial of this game that sees you shoot gunmen in the head with a sniper rifle before they kill their victim.

Good graphics, incredibly violent, funny and great fun to play. This walk along shooter shows some of the best 3D on the service so far and it does so with some great gameplay. Hopefully I can do a review of the full game soon.
